GoAmerica's California Relay Service connects deaf, hard of hearing and speech disabled people to the world, through technology!
There are many ways to use California Relay Service. If you have a TTY, computer or a wireless device, you can use CRS to connect via an operator to any telephone user. We offer a wide variety of communication options, and you'll find everything you need right here.
Our relay operators, often referred to as ROs, are friendly professionals who are trained to handle your calls quickly, conveniently and confidentially. We're here to help you connect, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Wondering if your call will be free of charge? If you're calling someone in your local area code, your calls will be free of charge. As with many other calls, long distance and international calls are charged at the rate set by your preferred long distance carrier.
Have a specific need? We've listed the services that CRS users can take advantage of below:
- Standard CRS connects a person who uses a TTY to a Relay Operator. The RO relays the conversation to the telephone user then types their response back to the TTY user.
- Voice Carry Over (VCO) connects callers who are unable to hear the person they are calling, but would like to voice for themselves. The VCO caller connects to the Relay Operator via a TTY. Once connected to the operator and the telephone user, the TTY user speaks directly to the person they are calling. The operator, in turn, types the communication from the telephone user to the VCO caller through the TTY. The VCO caller reads the other person's responses and voices for himself or herself throughout the conversation.

- Hearing Carry Over (HCO) connects callers who are able to hear a conversation, but wish to use the Relay Operator to voice their communication. The HCO caller connects to the RO via a TTY and types communication to the RO. The RO then voices the HCO caller's responses to the telephone user. The HCO caller is able to hear the response and then type their response back to the RO for the remainder of the conversation.

- Speech to Speech service connects callers with a speech disability to a Relay Operator who re-voices for the STS user as needed. The Relay Operator communicates the conversation of the speech disabled caller to the person being called. The STS user will hear the telephone user clearly, without assistance.
